Hola from Peru!!
We have actually remained in Peru for 4 days now and we've already fallen for this nation and the people. Your prayers are felt and God has actually already supplied in amazing ways. We will remain in Lima for the next couple of days, then we head to Cusco where we will be dealing with a Peruvian household for a month while we go to language school. At language school I, Devyn, will be continuing to find out Spanish, while Julian will find out Quechua, the indigenous language.
Anyways, as we were preparing to transfer to Peru and talking with individuals about relocating to another nation, we discovered that nearly everyone wondered to understand precisely HOW we were going to pack for our relocation. So before we dove into how things are going here in Peru, we believed we 'd show y' all 10 hacks that we found in packing to move overseas ... Enjoy!
1. Start Packaging EARLY & Do it in Phases.
Packing is frustrating (I will be stating that a lot in this blog haha) and if you resemble most of us, you have a great deal of things, so leaving it all for the eleventh hour will worry you out more. You might forget things or possibly take excessive. Julian and I began about 3 months in advance by getting rid of clothes and things we didn't require here and there (many trips to Goodwill). And we likewise began purchasing trunks early because they can get quite pricey so spreading out that out helps. I likewise began posting ads early on Facebook to offer our furniture and from that we had good friends buy a great deal of our things in advance to pick it up when we were prepared to move. Likewise making a list of everything that is in each trunk is something Julian and I forgot to do but is available in useful when handling customs.
2. Take Pictures of Your Home
This is really for the memories. The house we moved out was our first home together and it implied a lot to us. So the images are just for us to bear in mind and maybe reveal our future household one day, to know where everything began.
3. Loading Cubes!!
I have been a supporter for packing cubes since my journey to El Salvador a year ago. On that journey, I could only take a carry on with me and had the ability to fit 2 weeks worth of clothing and toiletries!!! Needless to state we purchased as many of them as we could and were able to get most of my clothes into one suitcase. I will not lie, though packing cubes are fantastic, packing all my clothing and trying to make them all fit and not go over the 50-lb limit was VERY DIFFICULT and triggered me lots of breakdowns haha (just being honest).
4. Discover Somebody Who Lives/Has Lived Where You Are Going & Ask Them ANY & ALL Concerns.
This is something a great deal of other people where informing us to do and truthfully we didn't believe it was that crucial ... initially. But a few months before leaving and becoming overwhelmed by not understanding what to load we connected to another medical professional called Ari, who is actually presently residing in the house we will be moving into. She has actually really been a God-send. I emailed Ari a minimum of 3 times a week up until we moved here. I asked her anything to everything: from the size of the cooking area racks to whether we needed to bring rain boots.
5. Toss a Packaging Celebration!
Welcome someone over who is a master at Tetris, who has no issue telling you "you don't require that", and who can handle you being stressed out. Our good friend Sandra was another God-send for us !! She came by (ON HER DAY OFF) and invested the whole day, going through our stuff, making the calls we could not make on what we ought to bring, donate, or store. She helped us load whatever in our trunks and assisted make it all fit without being over 50 lbs. THANK YOU SANDRA!!!
6. Learn to Let Go ...
At the end of the day you are moving overseas and can not take everything with you and will need to release a lot ... A LOT of your things. For me it was shoes, for Julian ... he had this insane thing about keeping EVERY pen he owned since college. Hahha. Why idk, however with Sandra's aid Julian is now free from his pen addiction. Hahah!
7. Bless Others with Your Things!
This was most likely my favorite part about moving. Like I stated previously, we took lots of trips to Goodwill, but we also permitted our buddies to go through all of our stuff and let them take whatever they desired. It was actually neat to know that our things were entering into the homes of people we like!!
8. Bring Things that You Will Miss!
In talking with Ari and other people that have done what we are simulating Julian's parents, everybody said the same thing, BRING The Important Things THAT YOU WILL MISS. For us, good bedding was really crucial, also good knives, a few framed images of our loved ones, and PEANUT BUTTER (obviously peanut butter is not a thing in other nations)! So that's what we made certain to pack!
9. Chill Out and Take A Second ... Lots Of Seconds ... to Laugh at Your Circumstance!!
As I have discussed, packaging is frustrating. At any caliber it can honestly make or break you. Do not let it break you. Take a second to shout, acknowledge the chaos around you, and after that just laugh because it is nuts. What you are attempting to do is crazy: your house has never looked worse, you are sleeping on a floor, and showering without a shower curtain while attempting not to get excessive water on the floor, eating out of the same bowl for every meal, and only have one great t-shirt given that all the rest of your clothing are loaded. You're not living your normal life and its overwhelming, however if you look at a distance, its also humorous, so LAUGH! hahhaha! Also leave your home, go explore the city you are leaving, meet good friends, and enjoy yourself, that really assisted us when packing was dragging us down!
10. Document the experience!
Its truly fun to look back now on how much Julian and I performed in such little time. Here are some photos of our last couple of months in Houston!
